In iRacing, you have the ability to set up 'macros' to pre-program various pit strategies and activate them with one button. These are set up in the iRacing Options Menu under 'Auto Text Chat' There are 3 pitstop settings that can be controlled using macros: Tires; Fuel; Windshield Clearing.
In this post I’ll show you how to disable automatic tire changes, fuel fill, and fast repairs in iRacing. I also have a little bonus regarding a new iRacing feature.
Sometimes when you pull into the pits you don’t want to use a fast repair. Maybe you only have one and you’re saving it just in case something terrible happens. You’re just stopping to get some tires or fuel. If fast repairs are available, the option is on by default, but you can change that default to off. Here’s how.
- Open Documents/iRacing. Look for the file called app.ini.
- Open the app.ini file with any text editor. In Windows, Notepad will work fine.
- Scroll down to the section called [Pit Service]. It looks like the image below.
- Change autoResetFastRepair=1 to autoResetFastRepair=0.
If you look at the next line, you can see how to disable tire changes, fuel fill, and visor/windshield tear-off. Simply change autoResetPitBox=1 to autoResetPitBox=0. This is useful if you’re running in an iRacing League that limits or doesn’t allow tire changes. Keep in mind that this turns off all of your pit services by default. You will have to check the boxes manually before you stop if you want any pit service.
My personal preference is to disable automatic fast repairs and leave the Pit Box alone. I usually turn off fuel fill on the grid, and disable tire changes if they are against the rules. I have to remember to turn them off again after any pit stop.
I also happened upon a new setting in the iRacing simulator Options screen. I’m not sure how long it’s been there, but I don’t think it’s been very long. I believe this came about as a result of the development of iRacing Dirt. See the image below.
I highlighted the Tear Off Visor Control. To get there, open the iRacing simulator, click Options, then click the Controls tab along the bottom. The default key combination is Alt-T. I set mine to the period key on the keypad because that’s easy for me to reach while I’m racing. I’m sure this will come in handy for iRacing Dirt! I’m also pretty sure this works for the windshield tear off in asphalt racing, so give it a try!
